The Birth of Jesus Foretold in the Old Testament

The Birth of Jesus foretold

The Birth of Christ was foretold hundreds of years before the actual event took place by the major prophets including Isaiah, Jeremiah and Micah and other Books in the Old Testament including very early on in Genesis, in the Book of Numbers and the Second Book of Samuel.

Isaiah as many who read the Bible know, is one of the more profound books in the Bible, these prophecies read like the Book of Revelation, you have to read a number of times and cross reference to other Books to really understand what is being said. I would say Isaiah is one of the hardest Books to understand in the Old Testament, but if you understand that Book, it reveals another dimension to the Bible that makes you realise that it is more than just something you read like a novel.

The birth of Jesus is mentioned in Genesis, not really referring to his birth in prophetic terms, but just stating that something big is on it´s way in the future and it is stated that he will come from the Tribe of Judah. As we will see later this lineage or blood line is imperative in the creation of the Messiah. Judah was Jacob´s fourth son.

Genesis 49:10
The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. Note 2

Note 2 Strong's Exhaustive Concordance Shiloh. From shalah; tranquil; Shiloh, an epithet of the Messiah

It was also mentioned in Prophecy terms in Genesis that the Messiah would be a descendant of Abraham as told in:

Genesis 22:18: 18. And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. (When the Angel of the Lord spoke to Abraham)

References to the Birth of Jesus

The Prophet Isaiah

Isaiah wrote a prophecy about the Birth of Jesus about the mid 700 years before he was born. These two Bible verses from Isaiah 7 and Isaiah 9 state quite strongly and in detail how the birth of Jesus would come about.

A virgin shall conceive and bear a son

Isaiah. 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel Note 1

Note 1 "Immanuel" is a Hebrew word meaning "God with us" and expresses the wonder of the incarnation, that God "became flesh and made his dwelling among us"

Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

The Prophet Micah
Micah prophesies that Jesus will be born in Bethlehem which at the time was a small village of 300-1000 inhabitants in Judah and is referred in the New Testament as the City of David. He mentions that he will be born of a woman. This was written approximately 700 years before the Birth of Jesus.

Micah 5:2-4;
2. But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
3. Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.
4. And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

He would be Jesse's descendant

David is a key part of the lineage of Christ. Jesse in the Bible is father of David and thus an important part of that lineage.

Isaiah 11:1-10

1. And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
2. And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
3. And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
4. But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
5. And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.
6. The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
7. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
8. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.
9. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
10. And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

The Messiah would be a descendant of King David

The Prophet Jeremiah goes into more detail in his prophecy that the bloodline of the Messiah would be a descendant of King David who was Head of the House of David which is is the head of the Tribe of Judah, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. The hereditary bloodline of King David was the the only legitimate royal bloodline in Jewish history. From David will come all the future kings of Judah and ultimately the Messiah himself hence the importance of this bloodline. Saul was removed as King and David was placed in his place and as the Bible states in Acts David was described as a man after his own heart, hence the favour.

Acts 13:22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.

One of the main reasons for the importance of the David/Judah blood line.

Jeremiah 23:5-8
5. Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgement and justice in the earth.
6. In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
7. Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, The LORD liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
8. But, The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land

The Book of Numbers

The Book of Numbers from the Old Testament was written at the time of Chapter 1 about 1444 years BC and spans over 30 years. The events of the book began in the second year after the Israelites departed Egypt, as they camped at Mount Sinai. This Prophecy speaks again of something way off in the future.

Numbers 24:17
I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.

The line of kings from David would endure forever

The birth of Jesus was mentioned in the Second Book of Samuel which was composed in the period around 630–540 BC

2 Samuel 7:12-16
12. And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
13. He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
14. I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:
15. But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.
16. And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

Summary.

The Birth of Jesus was part of Gods plan via the virgin birth that the Messiah was to be born of God according to God’s will.......... not man’s will. It is also a fulfillment of God’s promise to Eve that her descendant would destroy the serpent and the seed of the serpent (sin) Genesis 3:15,  thereby preparing the way for salvation of mankind from his fallen state.

Genesis 3:15
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Damascus and the Isaiah 17 Prophecy

A closer look at Syria and in particular Damascus, the capital and largest city of that country. This city is a crucial city in Biblical Prophecy terms and is just another part of the Prophecy jigsaw puzzle being fulfilled and has been in the headlines yet again recently. This article has come about after posting a tweet at The Twelve Gates twitter @ThatFJ regarding the bombing of UN supply vehicles and the temporary withdrawal of UN support after said bombing in Syria. For some reason that just leapt out (this happens frequently). Today a hospital was bombed and a number were killed in the same country. This all comes after the cease fire and also on today Wednesday 21 September 2016 a day hailed as #InternationalDayofPeace. These are key events and mark the fact as I have said many times before, that we are entering an extremely significant period in this planets history!

This article will be looking at one of the major Prophets Isaiah and in particular Chapter 17 which goes into great detail about Damascus and Syria and also Israel and what will happen. The first verse gives a haunting tone of what is to come. This book was written thousands of years ago and many chapters tie up closely with the Book of Revelation which is the last book of the Bible and the New Testament. Isaiah for myself and probably many others is one of the harder Books in the Old Testament to fathom.

Isaiah 17:1
The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

If you watch the video below that shows aeriel footage of Damascus you could say that in no uncertain terms it is "a ruinous heap". The full Isaiah 17 verse is also read throughout the video

The Precision of Bible Prophecy

It´s dawned on me the last few weeks that Bible Prophecy is unfolding in every aspect of our lives and is revealing itself for those who have the eyes to see and are meant to see such things, and it´s so precise it´s terrifying and potentially mind blowing. Things are accelerating lately at a frightening pace and hence why I put out a video intended for everybody, not just Christians, that you need to be prepared because the time is getting close!  Christian Prepping in these End Times

Syria including the headline cities of Damascus and Aleppo is right in the thick of the Middle East crisis and most people are aware and see these headlines in the news but think this is just another flair up of trouble that has been happening in this region for many years. Many people have become immune or even worse, now just have a passing interest in what is unfolding there. But Damascus in particular is a particularly relevant city and is the oldest continuously inhabited city in this world. Some say it dates back to second or even third millennium BC. A city thousands of years old now in ruins in 2015/2016 is significant by any means. In prophecy terms it is monumental.

If you take Isaiah Chapter 17 as a timeline and have seen the drone footage of Damascus  you will realise that Verse 1 is happening and is nearing completion. In this Prophecy Isaiah states that Syria and Israel will be in ruins and the enemies of Israel will view this as a sign of weakness and an opportunity to invade with the aim to destroy Israel forever. As these events will unfold God has a different plan in mind, and He will destroy these invaders Himself as mentioned in Isaiah 17:12-13

12. Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!
13. The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.

The nations that will be involved are also mentioned in Psalm 83 (whole verse below) which seems to have parallels with Isaiah 17. In particular is these which would include the Edomites = Jordan / Parts of the West Bank, Ishmaelites = The Arab people, Moabites = Jordan / Parts of the West Bank, Hagrites = Jordan / The Arab people, Gebalites = Lebanon, Ammonites = Jordan, Amalekites = Southern Israel / Gaza, Philistia = Gaza , Tyre = Lebanon, Assyria = Syria / Parts of Turkey and Iraq and the Descendants of Lot = Jordan information courtesy Rapture Ready Isaiah 17 The Destruction of Damascus

The Gog and Magog War

With the recent developments in the Middle East and more nations getting involved and Russia and Turkey being key countries hitting the headlines are we witnessing the forming of the Gog and Magog War?. The names "Gog and Magog" are famous in biblical prophetic literature and in Jewish rabbinical writings because of their future role in the great War of Gog and Magog predicted by the prophet Ezekiel (chap. 38 and 39). The book of Revelation (chap. 20) also records that an army of millions will once again join with the nations represented by "Gog and Magog" in a final attack, led by Satan, against the "beloved city" and the "camp of the saints" at the end of the Millennium. This final war will be the last battle in human history. Info via Grant Jeffrey

There is also mention of this in Ezekiel 38:9-11 which suggest a multitude of nations that come as cloud and descend on Israel.

Ezekiel 38:9-11
9. Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.
10. Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
11. And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,

Summary
This article really is just skimming the surface of this particular Isaiah 17 Prophecy but has just been used as an illustration that the bombing of a number of UN supply vehicles in Syria and with the right and sane mind reveals so much more. So much prophecy is unfolding as we speak and at break neck speed it´s difficult to keep up. Confirmation that we are not only in the End Times but also in the Last Days or End of Days. Another article that illustrates that it is in the small print and the fine detail where the prophecy reveals itself. As I write this on the second floor of a rather nice building in Kensington which could be the new The Twelve Gates offices?, (free to public with wifi), looking out of the window on occasion and seeing people carrying on as normal going about their daily business, it is hard to grasp that what was written thousands of years ago is leaping right off the pages of the Bible and we are now in those times. If you are reading this, you are probably one of the few that realise that what is happening in the world is Bible Prophecy forming right before our eyes.....it´s right there! The old saying forewarned is forearmed (not biblical) is very relevant here, but there is no doubt that we are on the verge of a time where things will happen that have never ever been seen before and the likes of which will never be seen again.

Finally I will close with another video, somebody I follow not by Subscription but keep an eye on is called Chad on the Pre Tribulation Rapture channel recommended by a woman who I follow closely in the US. He is a firm believer in the Rapture coming Pre Tribulation (I´m firmly in the Post or maybe Mid Camp). It´s a view I respect but this Brother in Christ is typical of many out there at present, that feel we are incredibly close to something big. He does the hard sell on getting "Saved" which as he says (and I entirely agree), is the only way to survive what is coming our way. There are a lot of fruit cakes out there, but this Guy like myself is one of the few more rational ones. He is a full on in your face Christian, but as you will get the feeling after watching this video, there is genuine and an urgent urgency in this video that is being mirrored by myself and many other Christians in the last couple of months.

As always keep watching the news including the more non mainstream but credible, keep your eyes on the Middle East especially Jerusalem, be prepared and if you´re not "Saved" now may be the time to seriously think about such things and get yourself "Right with God". It´s the only way!
