The Breakdown of Society. What is causing it?

The Breakdown of Modern Society. What is the cause?

An in depth look at modern day society and how things seem to be breaking down in quite a spectacular fashion in these  troubled times. Recently things seem to be accelerating at a frightening rate. The question is, what's causing this?, why is it happening?, why is it accelerating?, can anything be done about it?, and what does the future hold? Also in which countries is it more prevalent? or is it a global thing?

This article has come about as I result of the things I've seen on my Twitter Feed, certain You Tube channels I frequent, News Online, On TV and in the free papers and general day to day conversations and just walking down the road. I know what I'm seeing is being noticed by many others. Some people

stick their head in the sand, some people notice and ignore it thinking it will eventually go away ..... it's just a passing phase while others try to do something about it. I'm in the last camp.

Introduction
Before I start I don't think I'm qualified to say what can be done about this increase in the breakdown of the very moral fabric of society, I can only give my views and opinions on what is causing it and how things will progress in the future.

The human race is evolving at an ever increasing rate and technology is evolving even faster. We are getting to the stage where new technology is evolving, it's getting implemented but we really haven't got the first idea what the effects will be on society or health or other factors. We don't know what the long term effects on society will be either.

Take Microwaves and Mobile Phones. They are both now an essential part of our daily lives, I use them daily, most of modern day society uses them, but are they really safe. Obviously in day to day use they are, both Microwaves and Mobile Phones work on a similar principle. Microwaves in high quantities are detrimental to human health, at lower levels such as seen in household appliances and communications equipment they apparently have no effects on our health or no side effects. But what's the cumulative effect and over the longer term?

Air Travel is another example, it's common place now and it's like getting on a coach or train these days. But travelling at high altitude does strange things to the human body especailly when sitting in a confined space. Dehydration and Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) are two of the side effects of air travel that immediately spring to mind. The thing is no one really knows what the long term effects are of frequent travelling at high altitudes.

Moral Issues
Moving onto moral issues. I would say since "The Swinging 60's" society has changed it's moral stance and since 2000 the changes have been dramatic. Watching some recent news style videos on You TUbe demonstrates how far moral values have slipped. The community spirit is not what it used to be, a man could attack a woman on a street and onlokers would either walk passed and not get invovled, stop and watch but do nothing, or stop and laugh at the free entertainment. That's how sick our world has become. Somebody can walk on the tube listening to music at full volume on their mobile with no headphones, people these days just look sheepishly nd wait for somebody else to say something, but nobody ever does, they are too scared of the consequences. Back in the day Men were Men, Women were Women. Now you don't know who's who and what's what.

Mass shootings are becoming common, terrorism is rising dramatically, these are the headline grabbers which everybody is aware of. The things that don't quite grab the front page are often more disturbing in nature, that's where you can see the real breakdown in society taking place. Recent examples seem to illustrate how far moral standards have degraded especially behind closed doors, how low they have gone. Mothers killing children and babies, husbands killing wives and vica versa, babies even newborn abandoned, public transport fights and brawls, increasing mass demonstrations and riots, rampant drug addiction and it's consequences, gambling, selfie culture and narcism, social media addiction, adult website addiction, alcohol addiction (and at an increasingly young age, materialism and the list goes on.

Privacy Issues
Privacy is also becoming a major concern, not stricly a breakdown in society, but part of our modern day lives and is becoming of increasing concern to those who's privacy is viewed as a human and civil right. There is surveillance now 24/7 practically everywhere. We live in a surveillance society ,whether you like it or not, you have no choice in the matter. Even if you just hole up inside your house, modern TV's now have the creepy capability via voice activation recognition to listen into your conversations and save it to the cloud. What happens to it afterwards, is anybodies guess. The latest Mobile phones have a a similar system. I've tried deleting the app on my phone...........you can't it's part of the main operating system. Internet browsing habits are monitored, you can turn this off in the browser, buy you can't turn off your IP address. You can see what I'm getting at here.

If you go back say 25-30 years or so, mobile phones were the size of a brick and the same weight and the battery lasted 30-45 minutes. Internet access was non existent on the phone..........the internet didn't even exist back then. To pay for goods or services people used to write cheques or use cash. The church was bigger back then and the pews were packed every Sunday.....not just at Christmas and Easter. Celebrities were around in those days but didn't dominate the headlines as they do today to the extent that a front page Natural Disaster headline with 1000 killed gets shunted to the sidelines on the front page because X celebrity has split with Y, or Z celebrity was spotted in a rough neighbourhood going into McDonalds order a Big Mac and Fries in their PJ's. There was no selfie culture, there was no Orwellian Surveillance with no half round glass balls all seeing eyes everywhere you look peering over your shoulders. The family unit was stronger back then and you knew who your neighbours were.

The Throwaway I'm alright Society
Nowadays we live in a "I'm alright" closed door society, the pace of life has increased at a frightening rate, stress related ilnesses and psychological problems are on the increase, the breakdown of the family unit with single parent families on the increase. Divorces becoming common place, with sometimes marriage failing within a year and recently even on the first night or even on the altar. We live in a throwaway mentality society, back in the day things were built to last, if it had problems you got it repaired,, now it's cheaper to get a new replacement. This attitude seems to be creeping it's way into non animate objects as in people and relationships as well. If it's not working, pack it in and get a new one. Family read ditto. Church attendance is at an all time low, many are closing down , some are getting turned into Mosques, Bingo Halls, Social Clubs (non religious) Pubs, Casinos, Restaurants, Night Clubs or Flats and Offices. Celebrity culture is rampant in our society and everybody want's to emulate their look and lifestyle.

Generation Y
Young people as in students are getting saddled with crippling debts, which is like a form of imprisonment at a very young age (read student loans). They are experiencing psychological problems at an early age in life as a result. House prices are now so ridiculous especially so in London, young people have no chance of buying a property. It was estimated late 2015 that house prices are now 6.4 times a yearly salary. Unless you go for a 50% ownership, increasingly now it's 25% and pay rent on the rest. Generation rent is the term for our modern day society and with rents skyrocketing many young adults choose to stay at home and live with their parents (some into their 30's). Leaving the nest is an important time in life. Delay that an it builds up all sorts of problems.

What's contributing to the breakdown of modern society?
These are my personal views on what has caused and is causing this modern day phenonenom.

1. Discipline. Parents, the Legal System, School and Society at large. This has declined dramatically over the last couple of decades, especially amongst children. The cane and the slipper were common at school, you did it once and you learn't your lesson and you didn't do it again. Parents used to smack children or give them the infamous "clip round the ear" and shout incredibly loudly and you got the message. Now it's classed as "Assault" and "talking and reasoning" is the socially acceptable way to discipline children. Shouting is definenitly out....especially in public. I don't this approach works and would explain why we have the problems that we have today.

2. The Legal System. They say "the law is an ass". In this day and age it is. Health and Safety laws have improved our lives tremendously but it does come with drawbacks where Health and Safety can be taken to the extreme. A case in point here is 5 situations where the burglar sued the home owner for various reasons nd the law actually considers these cases. 5 Victims of Horrible Crimes (Who Got Sued by the Criminal)
Some criminals actually recommit times because prison life is actually better for them than outside in the real world.

3. The Alienation of Society from NatureIn our personal daily dealings, our time and thoughts are taken up by unnatural outside stimuli: mass media, relationships with people in the socio-economic context, artificial living in modern homes and offices, etc. These circumstances shape our perception. However, we may not realize how much our minds and way of viewing the universe have been taken over by the social system. It is sometimes only possible to grasp it on a visceral- or altered-consciousness level, when we escape to a natural environment and live without society or much technology. Our lives are very much screen based and this is having an effect on our natural perceptions and divorcing us from nature.

4. The Cotton Wool Wrapped Society
Children especially are wrapped in protective cotton wool, dropped off to school, picked up from school, constantly monitored whilst playing, wearing crash helmets when riding a child's scooter (sometimes arm and knee protectors as well), anti bacterial wipes and hand wash, anti allergen bedding and clothing, anti allergy food, don't stay out after dark, don't talk to strangers mentality. Cotton Wool is a metaphor for overprotective. The school of hard knocks would be the opposite extreme. Childhood is a time for experimenting with the world, a time for play, for learning, for trial and error, for splashing about in society, dipping a toe into the outdoors, and trying out different character traits to see which suit. I think as a parent, it’s a duty to help your kids with all of this, and to guide them around the traps of modern life. But ‘guiding around’ is different to ‘avoiding at all costs.’ and that's what the Cotton Wool approach does and it's crippling our next generation for the trials and tribulations of adult life. How will they cope when Mummy and Daddy aren't there?

5.The Decline of the Church and the rise of Science
Science has explained a lot of things away in this world and as a result Religion has taken a hammering and the Church in particular has seen people leaving in their droves with their new Religion being Science and Rationality or they just lose their faith as a result and never return. Some leave the church because of a lack of faith in the church itself with all the recent corruption in the headlines, but still practice their faith but outside of an organised religion culture such as said Church whichever denomination it is. BUT the church has an important role still to play in society and reminds us of the moral codes that need to be adhered to and brings us together with like minded individuals. Remove that and you remove a cornerstone of society that would explain why we have the problems we have today.

6. Celebrity & Selfie Culture: It’s clear that Celebrities dominate the news, magazines and of course the Internet. But should we be looking up to these people? Are they really success figures? Is it expectable for children to be imitating the attitudes and behaviour of these stars. Celebrity culture can affect society? How does society react when celebrities they admire, or model themselves on, act inappropriately. Celebrity lifestyles can and do influence the way we live either the new hairstyle that’s arrived into fashion, the obsession with trivial celebrity gossip in magazines that can dominate our conversations, speech, actions and more. It’s almost impossible to live your life unaware of the ‘glamorous’, ‘sophisticated’ lives in the celebrity world and we know so much about these people and have never actually met them! It has also spawned "Selfie Culture" which is rampant now in our Society and a classic form of Narcism which is the central theme of any celebrities life. Read the Illuminati in the Entertainment Industry why this is not a good thing and why Society is getting impregnated with Celebrity Culture shallow values

7. Technology
Technology has improved our lives no end with the dawn of the internet and mobile communications radicaly changing our lives being just a few examples. The more advanced technology becomes, the more it seems to have control over our lives. Recent developments in technology such as the internet also led to a decline in “normal” social behaviors. “The old-fashioned café provided a way to both share and abandon solitude, but sitting in your screen world is a whole other story. You are socially and psychologically cut off from your fellow caffeine addicts”. “The Internet has radically changed nearly every level of human experience in an incredibly short amount of time” . Two decades ago, you would have had to write a letter to communicate with others far away; if you missed an episode of your favorite show, you would have had to wait for reruns; and to read the news you would have to pick up a newspaper. These are but a few ways the internet has changed the human experience. Where we used to have face to face bullying, now he wave cowardly Internet Trolls. The list goes on. It's having a positive but also an underground adverse effect on our society.

8. Governments
You cannot blame all the problems of Society on Governemt but it has been the cause of some of the moral decline that we are experiencing in modern day society. The recent Transgender Debate and the proposed change to the Bathroom laws and changing rooms in stores is a prime case in point especially under the current administration in the US which seems to want to impose these new rules in favour of a small minority at the expense of the vast majority. We also live in an Aggression Supressed society with ASBO's being the latest Government initiative. On the surface it's a good thing, but you suppress something like this it only emerges somewhere else in a more virulent form. Values and Morals have changed and some of these can be blamed on the Governemts of the time such as Materialism and the Thatcher era.

9. The fulfillment of the Book of Revelations
The Book of Revelations is all about the Vision of St John The Divine written thouands of years ago about how society will pan out as in The End Times, the return of Satan, the Tribulations that arise and eventually the second coming of Jesus Christ. As many Christians know and realise, it's an inescapable truth that we are living in those nd tiTmes stated in the Book of Revelations and the decline in Modern Society is happening as predicted in that last Book of the New Testament.

10. Society shunning Christian Values and turning it's back on God
Last but not least, and this ties in with Part 4 The Decline of the Church, I think that the moral decay in our modern society, (we're talking globally here) is a result of the ditching of Christian Values, living for the here and now, living selfish self and pleasure centred lives and turning our back on God which is viewed as too much hardwork.

11. The Addictive Society. We are addicted to social media, alcohol, sugar, drugs (recreational and Pharmaceutical), our mobile phones, caffeine and all the other physical pleasures of life which when taken into excess can cause all sorts of problems either, health wise, mental, physical or all 3.

That's just 11 reasons why our society is heading for a moral meltdown. Thee are many other reasons. Poverty is another one, amongst many others. What does the Bible have to say about morals and society in general.
