| Are Fireball sightings on the increase? |
This article takes a closer look at Fireballs, Meteorites Meteors and Asteroids which are all variations on a similar theme. These again have been around since the dawn of time and this article has come about because it just seems that these incidents are on the increase and an asteroid called 2013 TX68 is due to fly by in the next couple of days.. Thought it worth delving a bit deeper.
Are the events of say the last couple of years something to be concerned about, is it fact or has technology made it easier to catch these happenings of the cosmos, or is something else really going on? The fact that the last ice age is supposed to have been brought about by one of these objects impacting/colliding with our planet means that the threat is there and may not be as far fetched as people make out. Maybe not just the stuff of Hollywood films, they are out there, and we are seeing them increasingly, all shapes and all sizes. When you delve deeper into this topic you realise how lucky we have been to not be hit by one of these on a monthly or yearly basis. This article is part scientific and part general observation and part biblical prophecy analysis. It's not an end of the world prediction it's more aimed at increasing awareness of these space objects.
Firstly what is the definition and difference between Fireballs,
Meteorites, Meteors and Asteroids. To the lay person it's all confusing. A quick look into each type below with links to further information all courtesy Wikipedia.

Asteroids
Asteroids (bigger ones are called Bolides) are the biggest and are minor planets, especially those of the inner Solar System. The larger ones have also been called planetoids. These terms have historically been applied to any astronomical object orbiting the Sun that did not show the disc of a planet and was not observed to have the characteristics of an active comet. You could say they are very large rocks floating around in space. There are millions of asteroids, many thought to be the shattered remnants of planetesimals, bodies within the young Sun's solar nebula that never grew large enough to become planets.

Fireballs or Meteroid
A meteoroid is a small rocky or metallic body travelling through space. Meteoroids are significantly smaller than asteroids, and range in size from small grains to 1 meter-wide objects. Objects smaller than this are classified as micro meteoroids or space dust. Most are fragments from comets or asteroids, whereas others are collision impact debris ejected from bodies such as the Moon or Mars.

The Hollywood Film Angle
Meteors and Asteroids have been well documented in Hollywood Films including Armageddon and Deep Impact but as usual everything is magnified many times but the threat that these films depict is real. Here's 4 films that are renowned for featuring massive rocks hurtling from space
Deep Impact 1998
Earth is doomed by a large hunk of space rock heading straight for it, and some big-name actors were on hand to try to save the day, including Robert Duvall, Vanessa Redgrave and Morgan Freeman in the role of U.S. president.
Armageddon 1998
A more extreme version of Deep Impact where Earth is under threat and doomed by an asteroid "the size of Texas." This is the infamous Bruce Willis film.
Meteor 1979
Sean Connery and Natalie Wood starred in this 1979 metor disaster film The movie lot line was a promised doom from outer space, warning that a meteor five miles wide was "coming at 30,000 m.p.h. … and there's no place on Earth to hide."
The Day the Sky Exploded (1958)
An Italian film, The Day the Sky Exploded, focused on scientists who find out Earth lies in the path of meteors. "TERROR FROM THE SKY," and "Earth Attacked From Outer Space." were the punch lines of that film.

Are Meteors and Asteroids on the Increase. 5 theories?
Just looking at The Twelve Gates Twitter feed @ThatFJ s on the increase?eems to indicate either via news articles or news mash up videos that sighting are on the increase. A visit to a website that specialises in such things and has been around since 1911 is AMSMeteors.org. Packed with information a couple of charts illustrate the dramatic rise in Fireball/Meteor activity which backs up this phenonemom. Strangely the increase in this activity correlates quite closely with the recent spike in Earthquake activity that has taken place over a similar recent time period. Yet another coincidence or something more?
I have five different open ended theories why we are seeing more meteors and asteroids. Which is FACT remains to be seen sometime in the future.
1. The Scientific Something is approaching Theory
Something incredibly large such as an asteroid or planet is approaching our solar system which is accompanied by smaller fragments in the form of meteorites. Could even be a debris field is heading our way that is either undocumented or is documented but the information is not made available for mass consumption.
2. The increased availability of technology Theory
Dash Cams and Go Pro's have not been around that long but the technology is now available to the masses at a reasonable price, so now not only are meteors seen but there is evidence and footage to back that sighting up which means documented and confirmed sightings and from multiple people will increase the number of sightings in any given recent time period.
3. The Business as usual (100 tons a day) Theory
The Business as Usual camp relies on the fact that there are millions of asteroids and many multiples more of meteorites floating around in space, the percentage that are actually seen is minute compared to the actual amount out there that go undetected. Ties in with theory 2.
4. The Biblical Prophecy as in Wormwood Theory
The Biblical theory or explanation relies on the Book of Revelations particularly the section that mentions Wormwood as a falling star maybe Radioactive?

5. The Space Junk Theory
With the increase of satellites orbiting this planet that have a) a finite life span and b) bits that inevitably drop off could we be witnessing the return to earth of all this space garbage in increasing numbers giving rise to the increase in meteor, meteorite and fireball sightings around the globe?
Five theories, there could be others. Where do I stand. I'm out there in the land of Never Never and the land of tin foil hats. Theory 1 and Theory 4. It would also explain the increase in earthquake activity and the bizarre weather we have been having! Let the reader of this article decide.
What to do if an Asteroid hits earth?
In the awful event that a asteroid deflection mission should fail, or disagreements keep it from even getting off the ground, the plan discussed in Vienna calls for an International Disaster Planning Advisory Group. That body would use our all-too-grim experience with earthquakes, tsunamis, and hurricanes to tell those in the impact target zone how best to evacuate, and how to deal with injuries, property damage, and cleanup. The good news is asteroids (mostly) give a pretty advance warning that they are coming. The bad news is, if it's big there's not a whole lot you can do.

In reality there is not much you can do except head to higher ground to avoid the tsunami impact if it hits the sea, and if it was a serious impact on land head way way underground and have supplies for a number of years, the chances of survival would be minimal. Even then would you want to survive what would in effect be the aftermath of a nuclear winter?
What is being done about this threat by the powers that be on this planet?
Asteroids and Meteors are unpredictable beasts that are at the mercy of the forces of the cosmos, gravitational forces, sun orbital forces the new urgency to moving forward on impact prevention. Gravity tractors, hyperkinetic bullets, and nuclear explosives, along with other more exotic alternatives, can in principle divert a rogue asteroid from a collision course but also causes more problems.

Uncertainty over flyby of Asteroid 2013 TX68 at Space.com
The original date for this asteroid flyby was 5 March but the date has been recently updated to March 8 2016 but nobody is really sure. The asteroid is 100 feet (30 metres) wide. Chances of hitting earth are remote but the experts are not 100% certain on that either. It is out there though and is being watched closely by the relevant authorities!

The objects energy before atmospheric impact was equivalent to approximately 500 kilotons of TNT (about 1.8 PJ), 20–30 times more energy than was released from the atomic bomb detonated at Hiroshima. With fireballs on the rise and an Asteroid due to fly by earth fairly closely in cosmos terms and a recent near miss from a similar asteroid it becomes apparent that as advanced as mankind is we still have no real control over the elements and the cosmos that surrounds us. Governments spend billions on setting up defence systems to defend their country but only recently are they even starting to think about the real threat of greater forces that pose a real threat to this planet and it's future and the survival of the human race.
This is an open ended article that finishes with this Bible Quote (King James Version) to ponder over, something that I think ties in with the before mentioned Theory 1 and Theory 4. Something I believe quite strongly is actually going on. The hail of stones mentioned, each one weighing a talent = Approx 75lb which would equate very nicely to a very large rock.
And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great. Revelation 16:21
Whether what we are seeing now is just a passing phase or a warning of what is to come remains to be seen. Just one of the many things mentioned in the Book of Revelations that is designed in no uncertain terms to separate the wheat from the chaff or more to the point those in the faith and those who are not!
